Pool Service Checklist: What to Expect Every Visit

Not sure if your pool company is doing a thorough job? Use this checklist to evaluate their service and know what to ask for.

    Before Each Visit

A good company should communicate arrival times, provide service reports, and flag any issues from the previous visit. Many top-rated companies now offer app-based reporting.

    During the Visit

Surface skimming, wall and tile brushing, floor vacuuming, basket emptying, water chemistry testing, chemical balancing, filter pressure check, and a visual equipment inspection should all happen during each standard service visit.

    Monthly Extras

Once a month, expect filter cleaning (DE or cartridge), backwashing (sand filters), a more thorough equipment inspection, and lubricating o-rings on pump lids and valves.
    Pro Tip

Ask your provider if monthly extras are included in your plan or billed separately.

    Red Flags

If your pool consistently has algae, cloudy water, or inconsistent chemical readings, your service may be cutting corners. Request chemical logs and don't be afraid to get a second opinion.
